A Temporary Residence Card (TRC) in Vietnam is a travel document issued by the immigration authorities or authorized agencies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It allows foreign nationals to reside in Vietnam for a limited period and serves as a replacement for a visa.
The TRC is applicable to individuals holding the following types of visas:
Note: Investors using a DT4 visa with a capital investment of less than VND 3 billion are not eligible for a TRC.

Important Note: To be granted a Temporary Residence Card in Vietnam, foreign nationals must have a passport valid for at least 13 months. The validity of the TRC will be shorter than the remaining validity of the passport by at least 30 days. Therefore, if the passport has a validity of only 13 months, the TRC will be granted for a maximum period of 12 months. In this case, if the foreign worker wants to obtain a longer-term TRC, they should proceed with passport renewal before applying for the TRC.
The required documents for TRC application vary depending on the case. Here are the general requirements:
Agencies, organizations, and individuals must submit the application dossier to the offices of the Immigration Department of the Ministry of Public Security at one of the following locations:
Working hours: Monday to Friday (except for New Year's days, public holidays, Saturdays, and Sundays).
Temporary residence cards valid for 1 to 2 years: US$145/card
Temporary residence cards valid for 2 to 5 years: US$155/card
The processing time for the TRC is within 5 working days, excluding weekends and national holidays.
