On June 24th, the National Assembly of Vietnam approved changes to the laws regarding entry and exit procedures for foreigners. The new laws will take effect on August 15, 2023.
Under the new laws, the travel documents issued to foreigners before this date will remain valid until their expiration dates. If someone applied for travel documents but did not receive them by the time the new laws took effect, the previous rules from 2019 will still apply to their case.
For foreigners visiting Vietnam, the new laws will extend the validity of electronic visas from 30 days to 3 months, allowing for single or multiple entries. Additionally, the duration of temporary residence permits for citizens of countries unilaterally exempt from visas will increase from 15 days to 45 days.
The new laws also include additional responsibilities for accommodation providers and require foreigners to present their passports and valid residence documents for registration at their place of stay. These measures aim to manage the residence of foreigners in Vietnam, ensure national security, and maintain social order and safety.
These changes are intended to meet the needs of international tourists and make it easier for foreigners to visit Vietnam for various purposes such as research, market surveys, and investment activities. It provides them with more flexibility, especially for those who need to travel to multiple countries in the region and return to Vietnam for evaluation and comparison of investment and business opportunities.
